HCM City banned from selling large state-owned villas

The Ministry of Construction has requested authorities in HCM City not to sell large state-owned villas in the inner city. HCM City will only sell smaller state villas or those located in less favourable locations The municipal government was told to check the condition of the 60 state-owned villas in the city. Large villas in the city centre, which prove suitable for offices or commercial premises, must be maintained. Local authorities must make a plan to use these villas in the near future, the ministry urged. Meanwhile, the city is allowed to sell smaller villas or those located in less favourable locations. Villas with partial private ownership are also subject to the sale. The city's government must direct relevant agencies to scrutinise housing funds which were set up by municipal agencies but have yet to be handed over to the ministry. Municipal authorities are responsible for penalising individuals and organisations that violated the government's Decree No. 61/CP dated on July 5, 1994 on the trading in state real estate property, the ministry added.
